I Can’t Get My Sh*t Together

Really, it’s bad. This is what happens when I don’t have a routine. I get up in the morning, go to the gym, then lay around until lunchtime. After lunch, I make sure to do something enriching with the kids (mostly drive them around to various appointments or drag them to the pool while I read). Then I come home, have Happy Hour and watch TV. Except, I’m 3/4 of the way through Season 3 of Babylon 5 and I have fallen in love so desperately with the characters that I’m putting off watching. Have you ever done that — dragged out the process of  finishing a book or movie or TV series because you love it so much? It’s a sickness.

Basically, I’m watching a lot of Rambo. I don’t really know how to explain that except that Rambo is on TV ad nauseum this summer. So far I’ve seen First Blood, Rambo, and First Blood II. I am not attracted to Stallone and I had my fill of Vietnam vet movies from growing up in the late 80s/early 90s but I seem to be unable to handle anything else. Rambo is the only person, I mean mammal, not annoying me right now and I’m including this one:

Lila, sleeping in hedgehog pose.

Yes, I know, isn’t she adorable? I want to snorgle her every time she does that (snorgle = kiss and cuddle while inhaling into her fur). Except, this isn’t my most frequent view of her. THIS is what I get treated to, every time I sit down:

*sigh* CATS.

And yes, I am totally surfing the net and watching TV at the same time. I am multitalented.

I have no motivation to sew anything, or to start any new projects. It might be the heat. I have some material set aside for more panties, so that might get done but otherwise I am out of mojo. To be fair, I did buy a pair of jeans from the local thrift, planning to cut them off into shorts…but then I came home and our garage was raining.

Because the washing machine broke. My kids were brilliant, and called their grandma. They’ve already figured out that Dad isn’t coming home for a domestic crisis and Mom is more likely to lose her mind than anything else. My MIL drove over and called the plumber, which is just as well since she tends to attract capable people. The Hubs and I tend to attract idiots. I don’t know what that is about either, but at any rate, we need a new washing machine. Fortunately, the kids made tie-dye shirts at camp and they were sent home with instructions to “wash separately!” so the only thing in the machine was Oldest’s tie-dye shirt. I just wrung it out and hung it up. It could have been towels…*shudder*

I was going to tell you about the zit on my chin, but then I came to my senses and realized this post was boring enough. Also, I want to take a vacation to Florida and spend the rest of the summer in my bathing suit and cut off jean shorts. I’m blaming Magic Mike, global warming and my FUBAR washing machine for all of this.

  1. Ahh, cat butt. One of the many reasons I do not own a feline.

I have totally done that putting off reading/watching thing because of being so totally in love with characters/story that I don’t want it to end. I actually do that a lot with sequel books. When I absolutely adore the first one and there are say, 2 more in the series (Dragon Tattoo, Hunger Games, etc.), I will put off reading the rest of the series so that I have something to look forward to and also because I don’t want it to be over. Especially with the Dragon Tattoo series, because once I read that 3rd book, it is really truly forever and ever over. 😦 But eventually I have to read it, because it is so good, and also if I wait too long I forget everything from the previous books, thus making the sequel harder to enjoy. Sigh. Anyway, just saying, I’ve been there.

    • I could not get into the Dragon Tattoo series (my loss, I’m sure), but I do identify with not wanting books to end. I’ve put off reading further in a series before, and I love/hate series finales. Hate, because it means I can’t live in that world anymore, but I love seeing my favorite characters happy and their story lines wrapped up. UGH, it’s a conundrum.

  2. Wow, we make a good pair (except all of my appliances are working last I checked). My sewing room is in an upstairs bedroom and no matter how great A/C is, it just doesn’t reach the second floor well enough to have an iron on and be comfortable when it is really hot out. My mom, by contrast, sews in the basement and her iron and sewing machine are in different rooms. There is wisdom in that arrangement, more walking but at least only one room is getting warm.

I do understand Bab5 love. It was such a great show. The characters…. the overarching plot… the lack of wasted content… Even the ones I hated, what’s his name, Chekov… Bester – don’t you just love to hate him? Now you have me thinking we should rewatch it, it’s been a while. Oh and don’t forget to watch the movies in order, I’m pretty sure there was something between Seasons 4 and 5.

    • Bester is just SO manipulative (and yes, I call him Chekov in my head too — poor man, he was never able to shed the Chekov identity). I’m currently loving the rebellion story arc and the romance, and I’m planning to watch the movies in order with the series. There are some good timelines online about when to watch the movies in conjunction with the TV show. I can’t get over how intense and sweet and FUNNY the whole series is.

  3. I so love this post. Really.

I too, love Babylon 5, and you and Seraphinalina and I are the only women I know who do. Now I really want to watch the whole show again. You know how when you watch a show you haven’t seen in a long time and you feel like you are having a visit with old friends. Or is that just me?

I have never not read a book or watched a TV show, but I sometimes wish I could have selective Alzheimers. Especially for the first Harry Potter book (ok The Hunger Games , I loved the feeling of discovery of the magic world.

I just did a tie-dye class thingy at the assisted living facility I work at. It is a blast teaching people how to do it, even if most of them forget between the monthly sessions. 8-D

This comment has turned into a hot mess.

    • Nope, I get the visit with old friends thing too. Maybe it’s a female Bab5 fan thing? 😉

    • Oh, the joy of reading something for the first time AGAIN! But I did rewind and re-watch certain parts of Season 3 of Babylon 5, so I can say that it holds up to re-watching. In fact, I want to own the series….maybe I can put it on my Christmas list.

No doubt my hot mess of a post influenced your hot mess of a comment, ha.

  4. B5 is cool and its been a long time since I watched it. Sounds like you’re in good company, other than cat-butt that is. Glad you didn’t tell us about the zit on your chin!! ;).

PS I can’t watch TV and surf at the same time as hubs has taken the laptop away with him. Damn bad planning.
